Jumping into the Sea of Faith: A Story of Unshakable Emunah

Emunah is trusting Hashem even when the waters are deep and the waves are high.

I want to share a story told by Rabbi Aytan Feiner of the White Shul — a story so powerful that it teaches us how deep emunah can run, even in the most challenging circumstances.

A Father’s Heartbreak

There was a man, a Ta’am al-Khacham, whose daughter was born a dwarf. Life had not been easy for their family. Raising a child with special needs carries unique challenges, and naturally, concerns for her future weighed heavily on him.

One night, as he sat at his dining room table, tears streamed down his face. His daughter noticed and asked:

“Tati, why are you crying? What’s the matter?”

He replied honestly:

“My daughter, you are reaching the age of shidduchim. All your friends are beginning to marry, and I worry… I don’t know how you will find your shidduch. That is what breaks my heart.”

The Daughter’s Answer: Faith Beyond Sight

But his daughter looked up at him with extraordinary clarity and said something that shook him to his core:

“Tati, you don’t understand my level of emunah. I want to tell you… If I had been there when Kriyas Yam Suf happened — when the sea split — I would have jumped in too. I would have been ready to follow Hashem’s command, even if I knew the waters would reach over my head, even if everyone else thought it impossible. That’s my emunah, Tati. I know Hashem can make my Kriya Siyam Sefarim happen too.”

The father could hardly believe the depth of faith in his daughter. Here was a child, small in stature but immense in spiritual courage, ready to trust Hashem completely, regardless of what seemed humanly impossible.

Faith That Moves Mountains

It wasn’t long after that conversation that his daughter found her shidduch. Her unwavering emunah had become her guiding light.

This story teaches us a profound lesson:

  • No matter how impossible a situation may seem, no challenge is too great when we place our trust in Hashem.

  • The raging seas of life, the towering waves of difficulty, are never too high for Hashem to split for us.

  • Emunah is not just a belief — it’s a readiness to act, to move forward, to “jump in” even when the outcome seems uncertain.

The Takeaway

We often face moments in life where the waters seem overwhelming:

  • A health challenge that seems insurmountable

  • A career path blocked by obstacles

  • Personal struggles that weigh on the heart

In these moments, we can take a page from the daughter’s book:

“I will trust. I will follow. I will believe that Hashem can split the seas for me too.”

When we live with this kind of emunah, when we truly believe that Rabbo Shom has a plan for us, no challenge is too daunting.

The seas may rage, the currents may pull, but with faith, we are never alone. Every obstacle can become an opportunity for Hashem to reveal His miracles.

Closing Thought

Let this story remind us: no matter how insurmountable a challenge may feel, Hashem is always capable of splitting the seas in your life. All it takes is the emunah to jump in — the trust that He is guiding every step.

Faith, courage, and trust — that is how the impossible becomes possible.
