A Miracle by the Pool

This story comes from a woman in Great Neck, who shared a life-changing experience with her family. She explained that her life was already blessed in many ways — her husband was successful in the stock market, wealthy enough to retire at 40, and devoted to Hatsala for 20 years. She herself was deeply spiritual, though not outwardly religious at the time.

One summer, in July 2010, the family vacationed in Miami, as they often did. One day, they decided to step out briefly, leaving their two-year-old daughter on a lounge chair by the pool under the watch of their housekeeper. They were gone for only a half hour.

When they returned, chaos erupted.

Life Hanging by a Thread

A stranger had appeared out of nowhere, holding their daughter, whose face was turning purple, her eyes wide, her tiny fingers purple. The scene was terrifying — she appeared clinically dead. Her father, trained in Hatsala, immediately began CPR while the crowd watched in horror, many fearing the worst.

The mother recalls a moment of profound clarity. She knew that she had to act, that her daughter’s life depended on a deep, personal appeal to Heaven. In that instant, she made a pledge:

“From now on, I will cover myself fully. I will be religious on the outside as I am on the inside. Hashem, I am ready to commit — please, save my daughter.”

She wrapped herself in a shawl while crying out to Hashem, fully surrendering and placing her trust in Him. Her husband, witnessing this, began praying with equal intensity.

And then — a miracle.

A Pulse, A Life Restored

In that moment, the father exclaimed:

“I’ve got a pulse!”

Against all medical expectations, the child had been revived. EMS arrived, and she was rushed to Miami Children’s Hospital. Doctors, baffled, monitored her closely. They reviewed surveillance footage from the pool, capturing every critical second: the fall, the CPR, the mother’s pledge, the father’s prayers.

After hours of tests, a team of six doctors approached the parents. They said:

“She was clinically dead for three minutes and eleven seconds. There is zero brain damage. She is a walking miracle. We have never seen anything like this.”

The mother knew, without a doubt, that this was the direct result of her heartfelt promise, her act of faith, and her commitment to modesty.

A Life Transformed

Following the miracle, the woman and her husband devoted themselves to acts of kindness. They donated to charity, encouraged others to perform good deeds, and dedicated their lives to serving others.

The rabbis advised her to share her story publicly and to use her experience as a teaching tool for others. They even guided her to open a wig store in Great Neck, named after her daughter Gali — subsidizing it to help others afford modesty.

Her life, once focused on comfort and material success, was transformed. Today, she says:

“All I care about is Chesed, helping others, and living a life of purpose. What once seemed like a tragedy became the greatest blessing of our lives.”

The Lesson

This story reminds us that miracles can happen in the most ordinary places — even at a pool on a summer day. It reminds us that faith, sincerity, and commitment can move Heaven. Even when situations seem hopeless, Hashem’s power is limitless, and our sincere acts of devotion can become the vehicle for extraordinary miracles.

No challenge is ever final. No moment is ever beyond redemption. Miracles happen when faith meets action.
